Trump: Salalah Talks Are Up to Them, Gasoline Will Drop Like a Rock Once War Ends
Speaking to reporters at Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg, where he was watching the Amgen Irish Open golf tournament, US President Donald Trump said "I don't care, that's up to them" about Monday's Gulf states-Iran Hormuz talks in Salalah, Oman. Trump once again reiterated that the Iran war could end right after the midterm elections in November, forecast that gasoline prices would then "drop like a rock," and said Iran was "calling constantly" to make a deal, though "they have to make the right deal"; he also suggested the US could stay in Iran and keep the oil, comparing it to a push for control of Venezuela's oil reserves.
Bloomberg: Iran to Formally Present Hormuz Agreement to Gulf States in Salalah
According to a Bloomberg report, Iran plans to formally present the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council countries with an agreement on a temporary shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz at Monday's talks in Salalah, Oman. However, escalating clashes between Saudi-backed forces and the Yemeni Houthis mean it remains uncertain whether all Council members will attend.
TCMB Survey: Year-End Inflation Expectation Rises to 29.61%
In TCMB's September Market Participants Survey, conducted between 7-9 September among 67 participants — 52 from the financial sector and 15 from the real sector — the year-end consumer inflation expectation rose from 29.43% to 29.61%; the 12-month-ahead CPI expectation rose from 23.69% to 23.70%, and the 24-month-ahead expectation rose from 18.03% to 18.32%. The year-end dollar/TL expectation eased from 51.66 TL to 51.57 TL, while the 12-month-ahead dollar/TL expectation rose from 57.43 TL to 58.60 TL; participants also cut their 2026 growth expectation from 3.1% to 3.0%.
