IRGC: Claim of 'We Struck 6 Ships at Once in Hormuz'
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Saturday that it targeted six ships in the Strait of Hormuz in response to the US striking three Iranian oil tankers, calling it the "largest coordinated attack" it carried out throughout the conflict. Iranian naval forces allegedly struck three oil tankers, which it claimed were passing through the strait via "unauthorized" routes, and three US-linked vessels in the region with anti-ship missiles. US Central Command (CENTCOM) has not yet confirmed these claims.
US Secretary of Defense Hegseth: 'If You Fire, We Will Sink Your Tankers'
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth issued a stern warning to Iran in a post on his X account: "Simple: If Iran opens fire on US ships, we will destroy and sink their oil tankers. All they have to do is not fire at the US Navy." Referring to an earlier warning by CENTCOM Commander Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, Hegseth described Iran's tanker fleet as "vulnerable" and stated that US aircraft, warships, and submarines could strike Iranian tankers in the CENTCOM and Indo-Pacific Command areas of responsibility.
Speaker of Parliament Ghalibaf: 'The Era of Proportional Response Is Over'
Iranian Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated after the US attack on the tankers that "The era of proportional response is now over" and added, "Every attack against Iran's interests and security will be answered with a faster, more intense, and more painful response." Ghalibaf added that the US must understand "before it is too late" that the rules of war against Iran have changed.
Signal of Hardening Against Blockade from Iranian Navy
A spokesperson for the Iranian military's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters stated that if the US's "harassment" and naval blockade against Iranian ships continue, attacks by the Iranian armed forces targeting US military vessels "will be more severe than before and carry the potential to expand." In a separate statement, the IRGC Navy warned vessels regarding US ships, "Do not be fooled by the 'terrorist' US military and do not attempt to pass through unauthorized waterways. Otherwise, you will be targeted."
