IRGC Launches Ballistic Missiles at Two US Warships
US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced in a statement on Saturday that elements affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missiles at a US aircraft carrier and a destroyer patrolling in the region. According to the statement, both ships successfully evaded "unprovoked multiple Iranian attacks" and no US personnel were injured.
US Strikes Three Iranian Oil Tankers in Retaliation
CENTCOM announced that in response to the attack, it targeted three Iranian oil tankers: M/T Downy off Kharg Island and M/T Stark 1 near Jask were "permanently disabled," while the unladen M/T Kylo in the Gulf of Oman was destroyed after its crew was instructed to evacuate the vessel. The US claimed that the struck tankers were part of a "shadow fleet" network funding the IRGC and proxy forces in the region.
Stern Message to IRGC from CENTCOM Commander Cooper
CENTCOM Commander Vice Admiral Brad Cooper gave the following message to the IRGC in his statement following the attack: "Let our message to the IRGC be clear: If you open fire on two of our ships, we will make you pay an even higher economic price by neutralizing three of your ships."
Iranian State TV: 4 Missiles Hit Tanker Off Kharg
The Tasnim agency, affiliated with Iranian state television, reported that four US missiles hit a tanker sailing approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) off Kharg Island, that no casualties occurred in the attack, and that the ship's crew was evacuated. Kharg Island hosts the main export terminal accounting for approximately 90-95% of Iran's crude oil exports.
